faq

1. Do I actually have to finish my book?
Nope. There's no winning or losing this event. The point is to make an attempt, learn healthier working habits and building community. You do not have to actually finish!
2. Can I participate if I'm working on revisions or something other than drafting?
Yep.
3. Why did you start #FinishUrBookFall?
When I started writing, I pushed myself too hard and had a challenging time setting boundaries. Now that I'm a full time author, I notice those unhealthy work habits I cultivated have been even harder to undo. In 2019, I started #FinishUrBookFall so writers wouldn't burn out or train themselves to be fine with being overworked (which publishing will only take advantage of!)
Learning to set boundaries and healthy work habits is very important in this line of work. Just because it's become the norm to finish a whole book in a month, doesn't mean it's good for every writer. I write much better drafts and have a better time doing it when I have more time. Of course, some people like working fast, but this event is for people who need some breathing room and want to reconnect with the joy of writing and creating books. #FinishUrBookFall is also meant to help writers connect with one another, and support one another through the creative process. Community is made with intention, and I hope this helps add positivity to the writing online sphere. I hope you get a lot out of this event, even if it's just the realization that the book needs the time it needs!
